| Description | 2-Ethylpyridine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyridines and derivatives. Pyridines and derivatives are compounds containing a pyridine ring, which is a six-member aromatic heterocycle which consists of one nitrogen atom and five carbon atoms. 2-Ethylpyridine is a grassy and green tasting compound. 2-Ethylpyridine has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as green tea, asparagus (Asparagus officinalis), herbal tea, teas (Camellia sinensis), and red tea. This could make 2-ethylpyridine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 2-Ethylpyridine. This compound has been identified in human blood as reported by (PMID: 31557052 ). 2-ethylpyridine is not a naturally occurring metabolite and is only found in those individuals exposed to this compound or its derivatives. Technically 2-Ethylpyridine is part of the human exposome. The exposome can be defined as the collection of all the exposures of an individual in a lifetime and how those exposures relate to health. An individual's exposure begins before birth and includes insults from environmental and occupational sources. |
